SALT SPRING ISLAND, B.C. – After a devasting fire at Windsor Plywood has left many employees temporarily out of work, local businesses have stepped up to help. Island Savings, a division of First West Credit Union, has donated $10,000 worth of Country Grocer gift cards to help the families of those affected keep food on the table. Country Grocer is kicking in $2,000 worth of gift cards as well.
“Our thoughts go out to everyone impacted by this tragic situation,” says Dan Adair, Branch Manager at Island Savings’ Salt Spring Branch. “It’s times like these when communities need to come together, and we hope that this small gesture can bring a little bit of light during these tough times.”
The donation consisted of 50 gift cards valued at $240 each. The cards will do directly to Windsor Plywood employees.
“Without our membership, donations like this simply aren’t possible,” says Adair. “As a member-owned financial cooperative, our members align themselves with us for this very reason, to serve their local community when they need It most.”
