LANGLEY, B.C.- Canadian Occupational Safety recently announced the winners of its 5-Star Psychological Safety Awards with First West Credit Union being recognized in the category of companies over 500 employees.
In a time when employee well-being is of utmost importance, the COS 5-Star Psychological Safety Awards have recognized Canadian companies that are setting the standard for addressing mental health issues in the workplace. These awards celebrate organizations that have gone above and beyond to ensure the psychological safety of their employees, fostering an environment where individuals can thrive both personally and professionally.
“As a member-owned cooperative, one of our core purpose statements is helping our members thrive, and we are unable to do that fully if we aren’t thriving ourselves,” says Liz Bailey-Connor, Chief People & Culture Officer at First West Credit Union. “We are deeply honoured and proud of this award, but what gives us even greater joy is seeing the investment into our employees’ mental health paying off, resulting in substantial declines in mental health claims thanks to early intervention strategies.”
First West has worked hard on its employee well-being strategy over the last couple of years to strengthen and expand its support for employees’ mental and physical health. Some of these initiatives include substantially increasing counselling benefit coverage, providing complimentary access to the Headspace mindfulness app for all team members, and launching a Live Well Program providing education, training, and resources.
