LANGLEY, B.C. –First West Credit Union is partnering with members across its regional divisions to provide financial support to food banks and small businesses continuing to feel the ripple effects of COVID-19.
Get a Meal Give a Meal is centered around social and economic wellbeing and raises funds for local food banks by encouraging First West members to purchase meals from local restaurants. In a time of economic uncertainty, this model provides a safe and economical way for members to support their local community.
The benefits of Get a Meal Give a Meal are two-fold:
- First West will donate $5 to local food banks for each order placed at participating restaurants
- For any orders over $50 (before tax), First West will subsidize members for $25, ensuring that the full order amount goes to the restaurant
“The impact of the current situation on local restaurants and food banks has continued to be the cause of significant financial uncertainty in our communities, and by leveraging our network we can help in a sustainable and meaningful way,” explains Launi Skinner, CEO of First West Credit Union. “Initiatives like this are what we try to embody as a values-driven cooperative financial institution, and the community response we’ve seen across our regions has been incredible to watch.”
Get a Meal Give a Meal is a part of First West’s community investment signature causes, Feed the Valley and The Full Cupboard, aimed at raising food, funds and awareness for local food banks.
Since the creation of these signature causes First West has raised over $3,540,000 for local food banks, providing more than 10.6 million meals to those in need. More information on these initiatives can be found at FeedtheValley.ca or TheFullCupboard.ca.
