LANGLEY, B.C. –First West Credit Union recently made a significant donation to Food Banks BC to support the fight against hunger in local communities.
“We have close partnerships with local food banks in all of our regions and know first-hand how challenging this past year has been for them and their clients— the need has been great and it called for a greater response,” says Launi Skinner, CEO, First West Credit Union. “We’re intentional about our financial strength and sustainability for the very reason that this enables us to enhance our community support at critical times like this.”
Dan Huang-Taylor, Executive Director Food Banks BC received the news at First West’s annual Big Picture Forum event that brings together over 1250 employees.
“Over the course of 2020, our food banks faced unprecedented challenges,” says Huang-Taylor, “Operating on the front line to provide an essential service to the most vulnerable members of society during this pandemic has been extremely challenging. This is why the support we have received from donor partners has been critical in providing our food banks with the resources they need to keep their operations safe and their clients fed.”
Representatives for Chilliwack Food Bank, Kamloops Food Bank and Mustard Seed Food Bank in Victoria also joined the virtual event to share stories from the past year. They were presented with $2,500 donations.
The $50,000 donation will be used to support the areas of greatest need across the Food Banks BC Network.
