LANGLEY, B.C. – First West Credit Union is furthering its commitment to the province, the economy and the community with a $100 million investment through the construction of a new regional office in Langley. Earlier this morning, First West Credit Union along with their developer partner PCI Developments, interior designer Omicron Canada Inc., project architect MCMP Architects and general contractor Etro Construction officially broke ground at their new regional office located at the corner of 200 street and 88 avenue west.
“We believe in the power of working big and working local. This new regional office will enable us to continue to support our economy, both locally and provincially while giving First West the opportunity to grow in a way that is best for our members, employees and communities,” says First West Credit Union CEO, Launi Skinner. “After a thoughtful review of our current office space and business needs, we determined that we needed a new home for our 320 employees who are currently crammed into a space designed for 170. Our goal is to design an environment more conducive to collaboration and creating more innovative solutions and products for members.”
“With the construction of this impressive new home, First West Credit Union is showing confidence in the future of B.C. and the ongoing success of its members and business clients throughout the province,” said Bruce Ralston, Minister of Jobs, Trade and Technology. “The Government of B.C. values the important role credit unions play, especially in smaller communities, where they consistently give back in so many ways to make our province stronger.”
As part of First West’s commitment to health and well-being, the building will feature better access to public transit, a fitness centre, outdoor patio, a ground floor public plaza area as well as access to a pedestrian pathway. This new project will also target Rick Hansen Accessibility Certification, align with Canadian Psychologically Healthy and Safe Workplace Standards and incorporate sustainable building practices.
The building will total 130,000 square feet with First West occupying more than 60,000 square feet of office space. The rest of the building will feature retail and additional office space for lease which will allow other local businesses to grow and create job opportunities.
The project is slated for completion in late 2020.
